The Athens in DeLand will hold open auditions for the Spring Season upcoming musicals:
The Lion King Jr., Always…Patsy Cline, and Singin’ in the Rain on Sunday October 14th from 5:30-9pm, as well as Monday & Tuesday October 15 and 16 from 5-9pm at the Athens Theatre.
The Athens Theatre is located at 124 N. Florida Avenue in Downtown DeLand.
Performances for The Lion King Jr. will be held on
January 18,19,20*,24,25,26,27*,31 Feb. 1,2,and 3* at the Athens.
All shows start at 7:30p, and Sunday *Matinees at 2:30p.
*Additionally there will be 10:30am school field trip matinee shows on January 17,18,21,22,24,25,28,29,30,31, and Feb. 1*
Performances for Always…Patsy Cline will be held on
February 22,23,24*,28, March 1,2,3*,7,8,9,10*,14,15,16,and 17*at the Athens.
All shows start at 7:30p, and Sunday *Matinees at 2:30p.
Performances for Singin’ in the Rain will be held on
April 19,20,21*,25,26,27,28*,May 2,3,4,5*,9,10,11,12* at the Athens.

NOTES/WHAT TO BRING: Actors may attend either evening and will be asked to do the following:
· Please prepare 16-32 bars of standard musical theatre song that showcases both range and acting ability. Bring sheet music in the appropriate key. No a capella auditions. An Accompanist will be available. Music from the show is permissible.
· Typed Resume and Headshot (preferable).
The Lion King Jr. OVERVIEW: Music and Lyrics by Elton John, Tim Rice, Will Van Dyke, Lebo M., Mark Mancina, Jay Riflan, Book by Roger Allers and Irene Mecchi, Based on the Broadway production by Julie Taymor. Perfect for children, this shortened (70-80 minutes) version of Disney’s heartwarming hit is a joyful outing for family members of all ages. Thrill to Simba and Nala’s triumph over the evil Scar and his hyena henchmen. Chuckle at the antics of Timon the meerkat and Pumba the warthog. And enjoy your children as you and they hum along (or maybe even sing out loud) to beloved songs including “The Circle of Life” and “Hakuna Matata.”
Always…Patsy Cline OVERVIEW: Created by Ted Swindley, Based on the book Love Always, Patsy by Cindy Hagen and Mike Freeman Country humor, warm emotions, and most of all a couple dozen of Patsy Cline’s best songs (including “Crazy,” “Sweet Dreams,” “I Fall to Pieces,” and “Walking after Midnight”) endear audiences to this widely produced show based on Patsy’s letters to a long-time fan—each letter ending with “Love Always, Patsy.” If you like country music (and in your heart of hearts, how can you help it), you will love this show.

The Lion King Jr.:
A wise mandrill who acts as healer of the Pridelands and guides Simba on his journey home. She is an omniscient character, evincing an air of mystery. Rafiki has significant solos in “Circle of Life” and “He Lives in You,” and leads the African chants throughout the show.
The strong, honorable, and wise lion who leads the Pridelands. Mufasa commands respect and also shows tenderness with his son, Simba.
A featured lioness, Mufasa's mate, and Simba's mother
The anxious yet loyal hornbill assistant to Mufasa who is always busy trying to do his duty. Zazu's lyrics are spoken rather than sung.
The antagonist of the show, overcome with jealousy of his brother, Mufasa, and nephew, Simba. Coldhearted and wickedly intelligent, he will stop at nothing to become king of the Pridelands. He has a sarcastic sense of humor. His songs can be spoken or sung.
The protagonist of the story is an adventurous and endearing cub who can't wait to be king of the Pridelands. Simba is playful, energetic, and naive, but after his father Mufasa's death, Simba struggles with shame and his destiny.
Grows from a cub to a lion in "Hakuna Matata." Older Simba has more complex moments as he reunites with Nala, mourns his father, and returns to confront Scar.
A courageous lion and Young Simba's best friend. She is not afraid to speak her mind.
Grows from a cub to a lioness as she risks everything to confront Scar and save her people.

A slick yet childish hyena who works for Scar. He would be the leader of the group if hyenas weren't so lazy.
One of Scar's hyenas who plot to take over the Pridelands. She is the sassy one of the trio and is always looking out for herself.
The third member of Scar's trio of hyena lackeys. He has a loud, cackling laugh that is his only form of communication. Speaks through physicality and facial expressions rather than words.
An outcast meerkat who lives in the jungle with Pumbaa. He is afraid of his own shadow but pretends to be the confident, relaxed leader of the duo.
A kindhearted, sensitive warthog who enjoys his simple life of grubs and relaxation. A loveable and loyal friend to Timon and Simba with deadpan humor.
A troup of lionesses that are featured throughout the show. They are a strong singing chorus that can move well.

20s-30s; dynamic and passionate actress who can embody Patsy Cline in voice and spirit; ability to mimic her unique vocal sound is imperative.

40s-50s; strong storyteller and comedic actress with a big heart; must be able to "hold the stage" and comfortable interacting with the audience.

Don Lockwood: Male, 20-30’s (vocal range: G2-Ab4) :: handsome song & dance leading man; must sing & dance (especially tap).
Cosmo Brown: Male, 20-39 (vocal range: C3-Ab4.) :: Don’s wacky best friend and film studio’s head musician. High energy, very athletic comedian; must sing & dance (especially tap); tumbling & acrobatic ability a plus; Pianist a plus but not required.
Young Don & Young Cosmo: Males & Females, 10-13 :: two young boys who tap extremely well.
Kathy Selden: Female, 20-29 (vocal range: G3-F5) :: Beautiful ingenue; Young, upcoming actress. Strong willed, smart. Don Lockwood’s love interest. (Singer – Mezzo with mixed belt to C and legit to E, Dancer – strong tap.
Lina Lamont: Female, 20-30’s :: Silent film diva with a big personality and a grating nasal voice; non-singing & non-dancing role but strong comedic skills a must.
Miss Dinsmore: Female, 45-55 :: Pretentious vocal coach.
Rosco Dexter: Male, 30-50 :: High strung, frustrated film director with theatrical mannerisms & tendencies. Comedic timing.
R.F. Simpson: Male, 50-65 :: Head of “Monumental Pictures.”
Dora Bailey: Male or Female, 18+ :: gushing Hollywood gossip columnist; Over-exaggerated, bubbly columnist and radio personality. Ability to dance & sing a plus.
